With the rise in popularity of people wanting a whiter smile, buying a teeth whitening system can be a bit confusing. Power/laser bleaching, whitening strips, paint on whitening gel, custom made trays, boil and bite trays and of course the over the counter whitening toothpastes and gels. Power/laser bleaching is a procedure, which should only be carried out by a dentist. Bleaching gel is applied to the teeth and a light or laser is used to assist the whitening process. The light/laser does not whiten the teeth it merely initiates the chemical reaction, which produces the whitening effect. Over the counter products such as whitening toothpastes will remove superficial staining but will not whiten teeth. Over the counter gels are ineffective. Whitening strips and paint on gels also have limitations, as they are difficult to keep in place. This brings us to the bleaching trays the boil and bite option can be uncomfortable to wear and the bleaching gel is not held in close enough proximity to the teeth to have the desired effect. The system Get Whiter Teeth UK offers is a home whitening kit with custom made bleaching/whitening trays, which is widely regarded as the best way to whiten your teeth at home. These are thin plastic shields, which fit onto the upper and lower teeth, similar to a sports mouth guard but much thinner and less bulky. They are approximately 1½ mm thick and when worn are hardly visible. Carbamide peroxide whitening gel is placed into the trays, which are worn overnight, or during the day for between 2 and 4 hours. Many systems offer dental strength gel or even twice the strength dentist’s use. Our gel is the same product dentists use not something similar. The same whitening effect will be achieved by 10% and 17% bleaching gel just the time it takes to achieve it varies. Most people will experience some degree of sensitivity when using any teeth whitening system. All sensitivity will cease after 24 – 48 hours after completion of the treatment. If sensitivity becomes uncomfortable, stop the treatment for 48 hours, do not be concerned as bleaching does not need to be carried out consecutively, you will get to the same whitening point, it will just take a bit longer. Bear this in mind when you are making your choice of 4 syringes. The most popular choice of syringes is 1 x 10% and 3 x 17%. If this was your choice and it was found that the 17% was causing too much sensitivity we will exchange free of charge for 10%.
Beware of super strength gels some of which contain harmful abrasives and acids, which can damage tooth enamel. We believe that a gradual whitening over 5 to 10 days is a great deal safer than going for the strongest bleach that you can find hoping that your teeth will whiten more, this is a common misconception.
